The history of the land where we live is a long one.  We do not subscribe to the claims of this being a young land or a new world because the native peoples have been living here for thousands of years.  The Wahzha'zhi or Osage, the Otoe/Missouria and Chikasha nations all lived in this land as well as the more recent Cherokees (since the 1720's) and some other nations.  We hope to discuss the past, present and future of Missouri on this page.

Tourism:

Missouri is known as "The Cave State" with over 6,000 recorded caves second only to Kentucky.  Not the least known of these are the Meramac Caverns where Jesse James reportedly spent some time hiding out, and Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, Missouri.

Lambert's Cafe, "home of the throwed rolls," has two restaurants located in Sikeston and Springfield.  This particular restaurant "chain" has been dubbed one of the top 10 Southern Restaurants in America.  

The Pony Express Museum is located in Saint Joseph, Missouri and represents the beginning of the first fast mail line across North America.

Trail of Tears State Park is located in Cape Girardeau and is dedicated to our Cherokee ancestors who died under forced removal.

Branson has been nicknamed the "Live Entertainment Capital of the World" and is very well known for Silver Dollar City and "The Strip" which includes over 50 theaters each featuring shows and productions.  There is also one of the nation's 6 museums of the US Presidents.

The Gateway Arch in St. Louis is also well known and a very popular attraction in our state.

Food For Thought:  If the state had retained the final "a" in the name of the tribe the Missouria how do you think the name would be pronounced?
